🌱 Why (and What Is) a Digital Garden?
I first learned about digital gardens while wandering Cloudhiker on my lunch break. I came across Maggie Appleton’s A Brief History & Ethos of the Digital Garden and her explanation that:
"A garden is a collection of evolving ideas that are [...] inherently exploratory […] less rigid, less performative, and less perfect than the personal websites we’re used to seeing […] It harkens back to the early days of the web when people had fewer notions of how websites 'should be.'"
Digital gardens emphasize exploration and learning in public; they’re more of an imperfect personal wiki than a finished portfolio. (Here are some Neat Digital Gardens!) This wonderful idea found me when I was thinking about ways to grow and create more than I consume. I'm hoping to use it as a tool to sharpen my thinking. 🌱
How it's made: I made my digital garden for free with Obsidian, Digital Garden plugin, Github, and Netlify, following this process.
